= AST RESEARCH, INC. TECHNICAL BULLETIN # 1225 6-20-95 = MANHATTAN P/V WITH NETWORTH PCI BRIDGE UTP4PCI NIC PROBLEM The Networth UTP4PCI PCI 4 channel UTP network interface card does not work in P5090. If SERVER.EXE (Netware 3.12) is loaded, and NCRSDMS3 disk drivers are loaded, followed by the UTP4PCI.LAN drivers (as well as ETHERTSM, MSM, etc.), the UTP4PCI driver continually reports LOST INTERRUPT DETECTED, and MONITOR.NLM reports that the LAN card is only sending packets, not receiving any packets at all. The server can not be seen on the network by any other server or workstation." CAUSE This is a PCI bridge device, and AST current Manhattan P/V systems DO NOT support PCI to PCI bridging. However, NetWorth provides the software, PPBINIT.EXE, to implement this bridging. SYSTEMS AFFECTED AST PART NUMBER AND DESCRIPTION 501502-XXX MANHATTAN P - ALL MODELS 501500-XXX MANHATTAN V - ALL MODELS SOLUTION This is only a workaround to provide the temporary solution to the PCI bridging issue. Please follow the procedure closely. 1) Always use the latest firmware and software on the Manhattan systems. In this case the BIOS is 1.09 (part number 905547-038) and the EISA Configuration Utility is 1.06 (part number 911371-037). Files 05547038.EXE and 11371037.EXE are available from AST's BBS AST's BBS (817) 230-6850, in the "Systems" file area. The above files will also be posted on: CompuServe Go ASTSUPPORT AST Worldwide Web Site http://www.ast.com For additional information on the BIOS and EISACU, see Software Bulletins 0178 and 0211 in AST's SBS library. 2) Make sure that UTP4PCI board is installed on the PCI slot, next to the EISA slot, and shares IRQ 15 with the first embedded NCR SCSI controller. 3) Run the software provided by NetWorth -" PPBINIT -I15 5" (15 is the IRQ and 5 is the PPB Address) to initialize the 4 channel PCI network interface card. 4) Run the software provided by NetWorth - "DIAG4PCI.EXE" to diagnose the board.
