			  MANHATTAN G590 UNABLE TO UPDATE NCR FIRMWARE


PROBLEM

When executing a firmware update to the NCR 8150 and 8250 SCSI controllers, 
the following messages will appear:

NCR 8150:
"ERASURE ERROR - PRESS ENTER TO CONTINUE | ERASE VERIFY 
FAILURE AT OFFSET 0X0 OF BOARD 1." 

NCR 8250:
"ERROR | PROGRAMMING ERROR - PRESS ENTER | WROTE 0x0, 
READ 0x55at OFFSET 0x0 OF BOARD 1."


CAUSE

The NCR Flash Utility, prior to version 1.03.1, contains an incompatibility 
with the VLSI PCI chipset on the Manhattan G590 system board.

SOLUTION

In order to properly flash the NCR firmware on the Manhattan G590 with 
either the NCR 8150 or 8250 SCSI controller, use revision 1.03.1 or later of 
the NCR Flash Utility.

NOTE: The flash utility does not contain the NCR firmware.  These software 
components are distributed separately.

The NCR firmware, revision 1.03.1, is located on the AST BBS and electronic 
forums.  The file is named: FLASH8X5.EXE.
