= AST RESEARCH, INC. TECHNICAL BULLETIN # 1235 6-22-95 = MANHATTAN G590 TWO NCR 8150 DUPLICATES DEVICE INFORMATION PROBLEM When two NCR 8150 SCSI controllers are installed in the Manhattan G590, the system will display all devices attached to the two controllers at boot. If the system is warm-booted, the information will be displayed twice for the first 8150 and its devices, but no information will be displayed for the second 8150. CAUSE The NCR SCSI BIOS reads the SCSI device information from the board with the highest IRQ assignment on a warm re-boot. The system senses that two 8150 controllers are installed in the system, but the information for the first controller is duplicated and no information is displayed for the second controller. There is no reduction in functionality or reliability in this configuration. The duplication of the SCSI device information does not indicate any condition that will lead to failures or problems with the system. SYSTEMS AFFECTED AST PART NUMBER AND DESCRIPTION REVISION 501723-XXX MANHATTAN G590 All Models SOLUTION The duplication of the SCSI information will not lead to any problem or reduction in functionality; these messages should be ignored. There are no plans to remove this message from the boot-up sequence of systems using the above configuration.
