= AST RESEARCH, INC. TECHNICAL BULLETIN # 1236 6-22-95 = MANHATTAN G590 WITH 8150 AND 8100 ERROR 12.35 PROBLEM When one NCR 8150 SCSI controller and one NCR 8100 SCSI controller are installed in the Manhattan G590, the system displays the following error message at boot: "12.35 The computer encountered and error during the autoconfiguration process." The system continues to boot without any other error messages. CAUSE The error message is caused by the two different SCSI BIOS configuration routines occurring within the system at the same time. The two controllers differ only because the 8100 does not contain an on-board SCSI BIOS, while the 8150 does include a SCSI BIOS ROM built onto the board. In this configuration, the 8150 SCSI BIOS loads and is used by both controllers. The system BIOS issues the error message to indicate that the computer did not configure the 8100 controller. There is no reduction in functionality or reliability in this configuration. The error message does not indicate any condition that will lead to failures or problems with the system. SYSTEMS AFFECTED AST PART NUMBER AND DESCRIPTION REVISION 501723-XXX MANHATTAN G590 All Models SOLUTION Because the error message will not lead to any problem or reduction in functionality, the error message should be ignored. There are no plans to remove this message from the boot-up sequence of systems using the above configuration.
