TECHNICAL BULLETIN # 1254 7-18-95 = MANHATTAN P/V SFT III 4.1 INSTALLATION PROBLEM DESCRIPTION A user may experience difficulties when attempting to remirror an SFT III Manhattan P/V server during normal installation. The completion of the remirroring process may be lengthy, depending on the size of the hard drives. Some SCSI controllers may exhibit the following problems during remirroring: remirroring stops or inoperable mirror group. SYSTEMS AFFECTED AST PART NUMBER AND DESCRIPTION 501502-XXX MANHATTAN P 5090 - ALL MODELS 501500-XXX MANHATTAN V 5090 - ALL MODELS SOLUTION This is only a recommendation. The followings are brief descriptions for the SFT III setup. Under normal installation: 1. Setup a NetWare 4.1 server. 2. Convert this NetWare 4.1 server to SFT III 4.1 server. 3. During the conversion, the program will generate 3 installation disks for the second server. 4. Copy these 3 disks to second server and follow through the questions. 5. The second server will remirror with the first server. However, if any problems occur during the remirroring process, the user can activate the servers by doing the following: 1. Run MSERVER on the first server. 2. Load DSK, LAN and bind the ipx, and MSL drivers. At this point, the first server is waiting for a link. 3. Run MSERVER on the second server. 4. Load DSK, LAN and bind the ipx, and MSL drivers. At this point, the two servers are suppose to be synchronized. 5. Type "activate server" from either server. 6. Using change to MSEngine and type "load install". 7. Delete Mirrored drives. Delete all NetWare partitions, and re-create the NetWare partitions. 8. Create the Volume(s). 9. Exit from installation menu and reload INSTALL.NLM from the DOS partition. 10. Copy all the files ,license, and NDS. By doing so, the remirroring procedure will be avoided.
