TECHNICAL BULLETIN # 1260 7-21-95 = ASCENTIA 950N DOES NOT RECOGNIZE AST PCMCIA TOKEN RING CARD PROBLEM The Ascentia 950N system may not recognize the AST PCMCIA Token Ring Card if the sound option is enabled. If the Sound option under the Audio Options menu is set to Enable, the system (Cardsoft's CARDINFO utility) does not recognize any PCMCIA Token Ring Adapters. For example, when Cardinfo is run, it will say; Slot 0: Card Type Unavailable Manufacturer = "IBM" Product Name = "TOKEN RING" CAUSE There is a conflict in the sound option's default base memory address 220h with the AST PCMCIA Token Ring Card. SYSTEMS AFFECTED AST PART NUMBER AND DESCRIPTION 501707-XXX ASCENTIA 950N SOLUTION 1. In CONFIG.SYS, change the exclude memory address statement from D400-D8FF to D000-DFFF. 2. In system Setup, Sound Option, select a Base Address from the following: 240h 260h 280h Save the settings and exit. Reboot the system. Note: Default Base Address 220h should not be used to avoid the conflict with the sound.
