ASCENTIA 810N MEMORY POST ERRORS


PROBLEM

After configuring an Ascentia 810N with a 16MB memory module option kit, and 
setting the Quick Boot option in setup to DISABLE, the system fails POST with 
the following error message:

640K Base Memory, 03072K Extended
Memory failure at 00400A6A, read FFF expecting FF30
Decreasing available memory

The system only recognizes 4MB of additional RAM.  If you select ENABLE 
Quick Boot, the system recognizes 20MBs of RAM.


CAUSE

Slower memory designed for the Ascentia 800N system is not fully compatible 
with the Ascentia 810N.

SOLUTION

Contact AST Technical Support at (800) 727-1278 or your local AST Authorized 
Service Center and request the 16MB Memory Upgrade, AST part number 
501488-003.

To install the memory upgrade, follow the instructions for adding a memory 
module, described in the User's Manual that was included with your notebook.
