AST RESEARCH, INC. TECHNICAL BULLETIN # 1300 9-18-95 DESCENT SOFTWARE AND THE CRYSTAL AUDIO CHIP PROBLEM: The game software "Descent" by Interplay mistakenly identifies the Crystal audio chip on the Bravo MS motherboard (202762-xxx) as an Ad Lib Gold card. CAUSE: During the auto detecting process performed by the Descent program the bus between the Crystal CS4322 controller and the Yamaha OPL3 chip is floating, in an undefined state. SOLUTION: The user selects "Sound Blaster compatible" manually during the software setup process, instead of using the auto detect process. This situation holds true for other DOS-based games also.
