            AST NOTEBOOKS CANNOT READ LEICA PCMCIA SRAM CARDS

PROBLEM:     After formatting the Leica PCMCIA SRAM card in a Leica 
             CR244 embedded controller device, AST notebooks cannot read 
             the card.  When the card is formatted on an AST notebook, 
             it can be read without any problems.

CAUSE:       The Leica CR244 embedded controller device  formats the 
             SRAM card with an older version of an SRAM driver that is 
             not compatible with the version of SRAMDRV.EXE that ships 
             with AST notebooks.

SYSTEMS AFFECTED:
              All AST Notebooks and Desktops using Cardsoft PCMCIA 
              drivers.

SOLUTION:     Leica has released a 3.19b Controller Update Disk that 
              solves the problem.  Contact Leica at (404) 447-6361 to 
              obtain the software.
