AST RESEARCH, INC. TECHNICAL BULLETIN # 1319 10-11-95 ADAPTEC AHA2940 AND MANHATTAN P/V SERIES SERVERS PROBLEM: When installing an Adaptec AHA2940 PCI SCSI controller in the Manhattan P/V series of servers, the system will hang and generate the following error message: PCI error 83090020, 830B0000 The problem only occurs when the embedded NCR SCSI controller is enabled and active (i.e. drives are attached to both controllers). CAUSE: A PCI resource allocation conflict exists between the Adaptec 2940 card and the embedded NCR SCSI controller. SOLUTION: Update the Adaptec 2940's BIOS to version 1.16/checksum 6E00 or current revision. In order to have the firmware updated, the customer can call Adaptec support (408-934-7274) and identify the issue to them. Adaptec will verify the failure and if true, ship the customer an updated BIOS PROM. The replacement procedure should be completed in compliance with proper electrostatic protocol. (i.e. Board and PROM should not be handled without proper grounding). SYSTEMS AFFECTED: All Manhattan P/V series servers AST PART NUMBER DESCRIPTION 501500-XXX Manhattan V Series P5090 501502-XXX Manhattan P Series P5090 501503-XXX Manhattan V Series P5100 501830-XXX Manhattan V Series P5133
