AST RESEARCH, INC. TECHNICAL BULLETIN #1322 9-22-95 BRAVO MS AND MS-T SYSTEMS NOT BOOTING PROBLEM: The system may not boot or may hang. CAUSE: The issue has been traced to a particular TAG RAM manufacturer. The TAG RAM chip manufactured by Paragon, was found to have improper plating in the vias resulting in no continuity between the PCB and the chip. SOLUTION: If the error condition is experienced, the Authorized Service Center technician should check location U-36 on the motherboard. The offending part can be identified by the chip being mounted on a PCB (printed circuit board). If the part is identified, the cache including the TAG RAM component should be removed to restore normal operation. This part is only available in the 256K cache upgrade kit for the Bravo MS and MS-T ( 501284-004) and should be replaced with non-Paragon parts. Non-Paragon parts can be identified by the chip not being mounted on a PCB. A motherboard replacement is not required. SYSTEMS AFFECTED: All Bravo MS and MS-T systems.
