= AST RESEARCH, INC. TECHNICAL BULLETIN # 1359 11-9-95 = Bravo MS Memory Problems Using IBM SIMMs PROBLEM The Bravo MS system may experience erroneous problems when using 4 MB and 8 MB SIMMs. For example: The program may fail. The system may not boot. Files may be corrupted. CAUSE Some SIMMs manufactured by IBM have shown to emit non-standard amounts of noise. This noise has adverse effects on the performance and durability of the Bravo MS system, passing invalid information to the CPU. SOLUTION The solution is as follows: 1. If experiencing memory-related problems on any Bravo MS system, identify the SIMM manufacturer. The IBM SIMMs are identified by an IBM sticker. 2. If the SIMMs are not identified as IBM 'BE' series, they may need to be replaced. The 'BE' is placed to the right of the IBM logo. To replace the SIMMs, call AST's Technical Support at (800) 727-1278 and request a Return Authorization Number (RAN) for IBM's 4 MB or 8 MB upgrade or SIMM kit. SYSTEMS AFFECTED AST PART NUMBER AND DESCRIPTION All Bravo MS systems.
