= AST RESEARCH, INC. TECHNICAL BULLETIN # 1383 1-3-96 = Premmia GX P/90 Corrupt Packets/Phantom MAC Addresses with Microsoft Client for Netware PROBLEM The Premmia GX P/90 system may send corrupt packets/phantom MAC addresses while using Microsoft Client for Netware from within Win 95. CAUSE The Bus Timer selection in Windows 95, for the AMD ethernet adapter, is set to "default (six micro seconds)" at the time of setup. The integrated AMD adapter used on the Premmia GX P/90 is susceptible to bus timing issues between itself and other bus mastering devices that occupy the motherboard, such as the floppy controller. SOLUTION If corrupt packets or phantom MAC addresses are seen, AST recommends BUS timing value settings be changed to eleven micro seconds, by doing the following: 1. From the Control Panel, Network, select AM2100/Properties/Advanced. 2. Change the BUS TIMER from Default to 11 micro seconds for optimum performance on the bus, when using the MS Network module.
