TITLE: Manhattan P/V Hangs POST 38, WinNT 


SUMMARY

   The Manhattan P and V system may reboot or hang using 
   Windows NT 3.51.

   This issue affects all Manhattan P and V servers with the 64MB 
   Memory Upgrade kit, AST part number 501619-009, installed.  
   These systems include the following: 501500, 501502, 501503, and 
   501830. 


ISSUE

   Windows NT 3.51 may reboot itself and hang at POST 38h when the 
   Manhattan P or V system has high disk activity.


BACKGROUND

   Unrecoverable Multi-bit errors occur on IBM 32MB ECC SIMMs with 
   Hitachi, LGS, or Goldstar DRAMS (AST SIMM part number 104000-790,
   IBM's identifying part number 11E8480BB-70, AST Field Replaceable
   Unit part number 501615-009A).


ACTION

   Replace AST Option Kit, part number 501615-009 revision A, with 
   AST Option Kit, part number 501615-009, revision B or later or
   the service part equivalent, 104000-790 (2).  
   The new kit replaces the 32MB ECC IBM SIMMs part number 11E8480BB-70
   with 32MB ECC IBM SIMMs part number 11E8480BD-70.  Contact AST 
   Technical Support at (800) 727-1278 for replacement SIMMs 
   (AST P/N 501615-009B or later or the service part equivalent).

   Resellers should ensure that the kit part number is revision B 
   or later.
