= AST RESEARCH, INC. TECHNICAL BULLETIN # 1425 2-8-96 = Advantage! 614 and 812 French CD Restore Disk PROBLEM Advantage! 614/812 (French) may lock up during the CD restore process. CAUSE On the Advantage! 614/812 systems, with a manufacturing date prior to January 26th, 1996, the default CMOS contents may cause a conflict with the latest version of the CD restore disk (p/n 916098-002). The system may lock up while loading the Plug-n-Play driver (DWCFGMG.SYS). SOLUTION 1. Download the file FRCDREST.EXE from AST's BBS (817) 230-6850. AST's BBS supports modem speeds up to 28.8k bps. The above file will also be posted on: CompuServe AST Worldwide Web Site Go ASTSUPPORT http://www.ast.com 2. Copy the FRCDREST.EXE file to a temporary directory in the hard disk. 3. Execute FRCDREST.EXE and it will decompress itself into six additional files: DISK.TXT DISKFILE.EXE EXTRACT.BAT README.1ST README.BAT RESTORF.IMG 4. Once all files are decompressed, read the Readme.1st file and run EXTRACT.BAT to create the Hard Disk Restore Diskette. (This step requires a blank 3½ 1.44MB diskette to be available). 5. Leave the Hard Disk Restore Diskette inserted into the floppy drive and restart the system. The CD restore process will then automatically start. Another alternative is to clear the CMOS settings by using the J5K2 jumper on the motherboard. For additional information on the Hard Disk Restore diskette, see Software Bulletin # 0267 on AST's BBS an other On-Line! forums.
