	Premmia GX P/100 Requires PCIIDE.VXD If Adding Teac IDE CD-ROM


PROBLEM

When installing Teac IDE CD-ROM in the secondary IDE channel, at the 
"Starting Windows95 for the first time" banner, the following error message 
may appear:

    "Your multi-function device (CMD PCI-0646 Bus Master PCI to IDE 
    Controller) has some child device using 32-bit drivers and other using 
    compatibility-mode drivers.  This configuration is not supported, so your 
    system has been halted to prevent corruption.

    After you restart your computer. Windows will use compatibility-mode 
    drivers for each child device attached to this multi-function device. 
    If you want to use 32-bit drivers, you may be able to obtain an updated 
    driver for the device that caused the problem by contacting your hardware 
    manufacturer, or you can disable the device.

    Press any key to continue. "

After this message, by rebooting the system again, Windows will start 
without a problem.  However, in the Control Panel "System" Device 
Manager, you can see there is a exclamation mark on the First IDE Channel, 
Secondary IDE Channel, and the IDE/ESDI drives.


CAUSE

Teac IDE CD-ROM is 16-bit child device but the PCI.VXD does not support 
both 16 bit and 32 bit child devices at the same time.  PCIIDE.VXD does.


SOLUTION

1. Run the Dual Install first.

2. Replace the PCI.VXD file with PCIIDE.VXD.  PCIIDE.VXD is included 
   in file PCI.EXE which can be download from Microsoft's web-site 

	     http://www.microsoft.com/kb/softlib/mslfiles/pci.exe

   or Microsoft's BBS (206) 936-6735.

This will clear the '!' on the CMD chip.  Then add the Teac CD-ROM on the 
secondary channel.
