= AST RESEARCH, INC. TECHNICAL BULLETIN # 1440 2-12-96 = Combo PCMCIA Cards May Overheat In ASCENTIA 950N PROBLEM: When combo (or dual function) PCMCIA cards are used in the Ascentia 950N system, they may become too hot to function reliably. CAUSE The excessive heat being generated by the card is a function of the combo card itself, and is at the upper limit of the PC Card specification. When combined with the heat from the Pentium processor, the card exceeds PC specifications. SOLUTION This is not something that AST can correct with the current design of the Ascentia 950N system. Future designs should address this issue. In the meantime, customers should use single function cards in this machine. SYSTEMS AFFECTED AST PART NUMBER AND DESCRIPTION All Ascentia 950N Systems
