TECHNICAL BULLETIN # 1460 3-4-96 = Ascentia 910N Hangs After 1-2 Hours using PCMCIA Ethernet Cards in Windows 95 PROBLEM The Ascentia 910N may hang after 1-2 hours when using a(ny) PCMCIA Ethernet card in Windows 95. The system will connect properly to the network and work normally for approximately 1-2 hours, then it may lock up and need to be powered OFF and ON again. CAUSE Random data may be received when Windows 95 polls the VLSI controller for power management status. This random data may lock up the system. SOLUTION To resolve this issue, disable power status polling. To do so, follow the steps below: 1. Click the Start button, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel. 2. Double-click the System icon. 3. Click the Device Manager tab. 4. Double-click the Systems branch to open it. 5. Click Advanced Power Management, Properties, and Settings. 6. Click the Disable Power Status Polling box to check it. 7. Click OK until you return to the Control Panel. 8. Click Yes if prompted to restart your computer.
