TITLE: Ascentia 950N, Xircom, Ethernet Modem
 
 
SUMMARY 
 
   If your system uses Card and Socket services (i.e. SystemSoft 
   Cardsoft 3.10), you may not be able to simultaneously use the modem
   and Ethernet functions of the Xircom PS-CEM-28BT Ethernet Modem 
   28.8 card.
 
    This issue applies to all Ascentia 950N systems.


ISSUE 
 
   If Card and Socket Services are being used in conjunction with the
   drivers for the Xircom dual card, it may not be possible to use 
   the Ethernet and modem simultaneously.
 
 
BACKGROUND 
 
   If Card and Socket Services PC card drivers are loaded in 
   conjunction with the Xircom PS-CEM-28BT drivers, the modem and 
   Ethernet functions of the card use the same interrupt. 

   This problem does not occur when using the Xircom-supplied drivers
   without Card and Socket Services. 
 
 
ACTION 
 
   AST Research, Inc. and Xircom recommend that the drivers supplied 
   by Xircom be used alone, to enable full functionality of the Xircom
   PC card.
