TITLE: Ungermann Bass NIUpc/EOTP Cards, Pentiums


SUMMARY

   The Ungermann Bass NIUpc/EOTP Ethernet card will not function 
   properly in faster Pentium systems (generally 133Mhz and above).  

   This issue affects the following systems: 501895, 501860, 501956,
   501972, and 501981.


ISSUE

   The Ungermann Bass NIUpc/EOTP card may not support faster systems,
   and Ungermann Bass has no plans to provide support for faster 
   Pentium systems.  The system reports the failure symptom as:

      "NIU Diagnostic error #FF".


BACKGROUND

   Ungermann Bass stopped making network cards several years ago, and 
   they no longer provide any support for this card.  Ungermann Bass 
   has confirmed that the same problem exists in faster systems from 
   several manufacturers, and they have no work-around or resolution 
   for it.


ACTION

   Replace the Ungermann Bass NIUpc/EOTP with an Ethernet card that 
   supports faster Pentium systems.

   Pentium is a registered trademark of Intel Corporation.
