TITLE: Advantage! 62x Windows 95 Sound Drivers


SUMMARY

   The retail version of the Windows 95 driver set does not include 
   the sound driver for the ESS sound chip on the Advantage! 62x 
   system.  

   This issue applies to the following systems: 501973, 501974, 501975,
   and 501976.


ISSUE


   If the hard disk image is corrupted or damaged, and only Windows 95
   is installed, Windows 95 will report an "Unknown Device" for the ESS
   sound chip, and a sound driver will not be installed.


BACKGROUND

   The problem will only occur if the hard disk is corrupted or damaged
   and the user reinstalls Windows 95.

   AST provides the drivers on a diskette available on any of the 
   On-Line! services as follows:

     * Refer to IB0001.TXT for a list of AST's international BBS 
       numbers.


ACTION

   To install the drivers:

   1. Download file <A HREF="ftp://ftp.ast.com/D-OTHER/12619031.EXE">12619031.EXE</A> from one of AST's On-Line! services.
   2. Follow the README.TXT instructions.
   3. Install the drivers.
   4. Reboot the system.

   For additional information on the ES1788 Windows 95 Audio drivers,
   see 0284SB.TXT on one of AST's On-Line! services.

   AST highly recommends a backup of all data not originally on the 
   computer, before performing any software update.
