This issue applies to any computer system using a Torisan CDR-S1G CD-ROM drive. This issue was duplicated on the 501766 system. ISSUE When installing software from various CD-ROM-based applications using a Torisan CD-ROM drive, model CDR-S1G, the software may install correctly, however, when running the application, the program may return an unexpected application error and then stop. BACKGROUND Torisan firmware revision below 2.15, with serial numbers beginning with 0 or 1, may exhibit the problem. ACTION Replace Torisan model CDR-S1G CD-ROM drive, AST part number 234167-410, to reflect firmware version 2.15 or later. The AST part number will follow the revision, which should be D or later, for example: D234167-410. NOTES To determine which firmware your system is using (in Windows 95), perform the following steps: 1. From the Control Panel, click on System. 2. Click on Device Manager, and then double-click on CD-ROM. 3. Click on the CD-ROM device, then click on Settings. The settings screen will show the firmware version the system is currently using. To determine which firmware version the CD-ROM drive uses in operating systems other than Windows 95, boot to DOS and run file DRV_INFO.EXE from the DOS prompt.
