AST RESEARCH, INC. TECHNICAL BULLETIN # 1555 8-16-96 TITLE: SCO OpenServer 5 UNIX Lock Up Bravo MS SUMMARY SCO OpenServer 5, may appear to lock up during installation. This issue affects the following systems: 501920, 501921, 501922, 501980, 501981, 501894, and 501895. ISSUE The keyboard locks up during SCO OpenServer 5 installation on Bravo MS systems. The system does not accept any keyboard input. BACKGROUND The SCO OpenServer 5 keyboard driver does not respond to keyboard input causing the system to lock up. ACTION The keyboard driver needs to be updated. To create an update diskette, perform the following steps: 1. Connect to ftp.sco.com (preferably with a UNIX system) 2. cd to the /SLS directory 3. Obtain files OSS424A.Z and OSS424.LTR.Z 4. Change directory to /AHS/5.0/sco/5.2 5. Obtain files BTLD_135DSK.DD and EN_INST.TXT 6. If these files were not copied directly to a UNIX system, copy them to a UNIX system now. 7. On the UNIX system, uncompress -v *.Z 8. Insert a blank, formatted floppy diskette into the UNIX floppy drive. 9. dd if=oss424a of=/dev/rfd0 bs=36k 10. Remove the diskette and label it "keyboard fix (kbp)" 11. Insert another blank floppy diskette 12 dd if=btld_135dsk.dd of=/dev/rfd0 bs=36k 13. Remove the diskette and label it "ATAPI fix (wd)" 14. Boot the Bravo MS system with the SCO OpenServer boot diskette 15. At the "Boot:" prompt: defbootstr ahslink="kbp wd" 16. When prompted, insert the kbp diskette 17. When prompted, insert the wd diskette 18. Enter "r" to replace the wd driver 19. Follow the remaining steps to install OpenServer 5. NOTES If customers cannot find the files at the location stated above, on SCO's ftp site, customers should contact SCO at (800) 347-4381 for the file locations.
