AST RESEARCH, INC. TECHNICAL BULLETIN # 1559 08/27/96 TITLE: Ascentia P, IBM Token Ring Card, Win95 SUMMARY After adding RAM to the Ascentia P mobile computer, it may not be possible to configure an IBM token ring PC Card. This issue applies to all Ascentia P systems. ISSUE After adding RAM to the Ascentia P mobile computer, it may not be possible to configure an IBM Token Ring PC card due to lack of available resources. This may cause Windows 95 to generate an error message that indicates the IBM token ring card is not functioning properly. BACKGROUND The IBM Token Ring PC card requires that two memory addresses be reserved. The default driver included with Windows 95 for the IBM token ring PC card requires that the second memory address range be 64KB. After adding memory to the Ascentia P, Windows 95 may report a conflict with PCMCIA Card Services and the card may no longer function. ACTION 1. Download version 1.07 or higher of the IBM Token Ring drivers. The current file name is TRDRV107.EXE. IBM's current ftp site address is as follows: (http://www.raleigh.ibm.com/nes/nestoken.htm#trmisc). 2. For installation instructions, follow the directions in the README file. For further assistance with the IBM PC card, please contact IBM's Technical Support. NOTES After this driver is installed, Window 95 will only require a 16KB address range for the second memory block.
