TITLE:  Ascentia P Can Only Report 32MB Memory
 
 
SUMMARY 
 
   The Ascentia P only reports a total of 32MB of memory when it 
   should report 40MB. 
   
   This issue affects all the Ascentia P systems using third party 
   memory.    


ISSUE 
 
   After adding two non-AST 16MB memory modules, the Ascentia P only 
   reports a total of 32MB of memory when it should report 40MB.    

 
BACKGROUND 
 
   The Ascentia P mobile computer comes with 8MB of system memory 
   and can be expanded to a maximum of 40MB. 
   
   The Ascentia P uses only EDO (Extended Data Out) single bank 
   memory. Some third party memory manufacturers have sold dual bank 
   EDO memory for the Ascentia P. 
   If dual bank memory is used, the 8MB of memory that are 
   pre-installed on the system board may not function as designed 
   and the system will only report 32MB of memory instead of the 
   full 40MB.    

 
ACTION 
 
   Please call the memory manufacturer for replacement.
