AST RESEARCH, INC. TECHNICAL BULLETIN # 1580 09/10/96 TITLE: Crystal Audio Drv CS4232C.EXE Load Slow SUMMARY When booting any system that is loading the Crystal Audio CS4232C.EXE driver in the CONFIG.SYS, the driver may take longer than 60 seconds to load. This issue applies all systems. ISSUE The specific configuration listed below causes the CS4232C.EXE driver to take longer to load than expected. 1. DOS is loaded into upper memory blocks by using DOS=UMB in the CONFIG.SYS file. 2. The Intel Plug-and-Play driver DWCFGMG.EXE is loading in the CONFIG.SYS file. 3. CS4232C.EXE is loading in the CONFIG.SYS file. BACKGROUND The Crystal Audio chipset is a Plug-and-Play device. In this configuration, the CS4232C.EXE will load properly, however it takes a long time to read the resource information from the Plug-and-Play architecture of the system. ACTION Load the CS4232C.EXE in the AUTOEXEC.BAT instead of CONFIG.SYS. 1. Delete the line containing CS4232C.EXE from the CONFIG.SYS file. 2. Add the line below to the beginning of the AUTOEXEC.BAT file: C:\CRYSTAL\CS4232C.EXE /N NOTES N/A TAN 002900CP --------------------------------------------------------------------- The information in this data sheet is subject to change without notice.
