TITLE:  Ascentia P and Synaptic Win95 TouchPad
 
 
SUMMARY 
 
   When attempting to create the backup disk images, the option to 
   create the "Synaptic Win95 TouchPad Driver" from the Microsoft 
   Create System Disk menu, may give a "Not ready reading drive A:" 
   error.    


ISSUE 
 
   Once the error occurs, any subsequent options selected from the 
   menu may fail. Rebooting the machine and selecting any of the 
   options except "Synaptic Win95 TouchPad Driver" will work.    

 
BACKGROUND 
 
   This problem arises from a missing file name (SNYTP.HLP) and a 
   Carriage Return in the MSCSD04.INI file. The present software 
   image has been amended for all systems currently in production.    

 
ACTION 
 
   To solve this issue amendment to the MSCSD04.INI file is required.
   
   This file is found in the C:\WINDOWS\OPTIONS directory.
   
   Edit the file with NOTEPAD.
   
   It will look like this.
   
   Title=Synaptic Win95 TouchPad Driver, v4.0
   Description=Restore Synaptic TouchPad driver from Control
   Panel/Mouse/
   General menu if your software is damaged.
   #_of_disks=1
   size=1.44MB
   dest_drive=a
   
   [Disk1]
   Prompt=Synaptic TouchPad Driver, v4.0
   Label=Disk1
   FILE1=c:\BACKUP\Synaptic\Disk_1\FILE2=c:\BACKUP\Synaptic

   The line beginning with FILE1 is missing the reference to
   the SYNTP.HLP file and a Carriage Return.
   
   It should read.
   FILE1=c:\BACKUP\Synaptic\Disk_1\SYNTP.HLP
   FILE2=c:\BACKUP\Synaptic\Disk_1\SYNTP.INF
   FILE3=c:\BACKUP\Synaptic\Disk_1\SYNTP.VXD
   FILE4=c:\BACKUP\Synaptic\Disk_1\SYNPANEL.DLL
   FILE5=c:\BACKUP\Synaptic\Disk_1\README.TXT
   
   Save the changes and then create the "Synaptic Win95 TouchPad 
   Driver" diskette from the Microsoft Create System Disk menu.
