AST RESEARCH, INC. TECHNICAL BULLETIN # 1604 11/12/96 TITLE: Advantage! 7000/9000 ISA Card Conflict ISSUE When using the "auto" setting for I/O resources in BIOS setup, Windows 95 is permitted to assign the resources. Depending on the resource allocations which are assigned by Windows 95, conflicts may occur with ISA legacy devices. These allocations may change when the system is rebooted. This issue affects the following systems: 503079, 503080, 503082, 503083, 503084, 503086, 503087, 503152, 503116, and 503118. BACKGROUND N/A ACTION If conflicts occur, manually configure the jumpers on the legacy card to a non-conflicting I/O address. NOTES The issue mentioned in this bulletin does not affect the performance of the operating system. The BIOS default values use manual resource settings for devices such as the on-board serial ports, to ensure that the system behaves consistently under most conditions. When using an ISA legacy device in the system, it may be necessary to reassign those resources to avoid conflicts with the ISA legacy device.
