AST RESEARCH, INC. TECHNICAL BULLETIN # 1618 11/05/96 TITLE: Ascentia P or J Port Replicator ISSUE Port replicators are specifically designed as a convenient one-step connection to multiple desktop devices, and do not initiate a docking event within Windows 95. Our Port replicators meet specifications as outlined by Microsoft. This issue applies to all Ascentia J and P systems. BACKGROUND The port replicator signals to the system that it is attached by changing the active low replicator (pin 31) from a HIGH to LOW condition, when an optical sensor on the replicator is activated by locking the replicator in place. The DKING and DKINTR signals are not used by the replicator and will have no bearing on this configuration. The function of the replicator pin is to inform the power management circuit within the system, to take its supply from the replicator input. This pin also allows the circuit to switch the supply voltages to the replicator, once the unit has been locked into place. ACTION None required. The system is operating as designed.
