AST RESEARCH, INC. TECHNICAL BULLETIN # 1629 12/04/96 TITLE: Advantage! 7xxx/9xxx MPR.DLL errors. ISSUE The Windows 95 Disk Defragmenter may cause network problems in the Finnish and Swiss German Advantage! range. After running Disk Defragmenter, Windows 95 Backup, or any network application may cause Windows 95 to display an error message stating MPR.DLL cannot be started. This issue affects the following systems: 503091-009 Advantage! 7301 (Finland), 503092-009 Advantage! 7303 (Finland), 503092-006 Advantage! 7303 (Swiss-German), and 503094-006 Advantage! 9304 (Swiss-German). BACKGROUND Windows 95 Backup or any network application tries to execute a file called MPR.DLL, which is not an executable but rather, a dynamic library used for network access. AST is currently investigating why MPR.DLL is invoked. ACTION The problem can be rectified by clicking OK when the error message appears and then rebooting the system. Once Disk Defragmenter has run, and the system is restarted, and the problem no longer occurs.
