AST RESEARCH, INC. TECHNICAL BULLETIN # 1638 12/10/96 TITLE: Bravo MS Video Conflict w/Stealth64 PCI ISSUE After installing the Diamond Stealth64 2001TV PCI video adapter into a Bravo MS/MS-T system, the video adapter may cause a conflict with the integrated ATI Mach64 video controller. The conflict occurs when the Diamond Stealth64 video adapter card attempts to use the same memory address as the System Board Extension for the Plug-and-Play (PnP) BIOS. During boot, with the Diamond Stealth64 installed, the following error message is displayed: "12.35 The computer encountered an error during the resource autoconfiguration process." Windows 95 continues to load, and eventually displays the following message: "Your display adapter conflicts with another device in your computer." The system then prompts the user to run the Hardware Conflict Troubleshooter. Examination of the Display Adapter section in Device Manager reveals both video adapters with yellow exclamation marks, representing the conflict. This issue affects the following systems: 501951, 501952, 501954, 503088, 501955, 501956, 501972, and 503043. BACKGROUND Resources on the Stealth64 are allocated as follows: No conflict Memory Range C0000-C7FFF Memory Range A0000-AFFFF Memory Range B0000-BFFFF I/O Range 3B0-3BB I/O Range 3C0-3DF IRQ 11 Memory Range F8000000-FBFFFFFF Conflict Memory Range 00000000-03FFFFFF used by System Board Extension for PnP BIOS ACTION The conflict may be resolved by clearing non-volatile memory. From a command prompt, run the utility CLEARNVS.EXE (AST filename 12493031.EXE), available from any AST On Line! services.
