AST RESEARCH, INC. TECHNICAL BULLETIN # 1647 12/19/96 TITLE: 3COM 3C90X and XMS Error Message ISSUE When the Bravo MS/MS-T system is warm booted after the network drivers are loaded, the system will either hang or produce the following error message: "Himem.sys has detected unreliable XMS memory at address xxxxxxx" This issue affects various systems regardless of manufacturer. BACKGROUND This issue only applies when the 3C90X.COM driver dated 5-29-96 and various versions of LSL are loaded into high memory. ACTION Users experiencing this issue should download the following file from 3COM's Web site: 3C90XN.EXE. The file is located at www.3com.com. Select Customer Support, then Software Library, and double-click on Latest Adapter Files. This file is the install utility for the 3C90X.COM family of products. After the file has been extracted, go to the NWCLIENT subdirectory and replace your existing 3C90X driver with this one. NOTES Previous versions of the driver would not "shutdown" the card after a warm boot was initiated. The new driver allows the card to accept a warm boot without any adverse affect to the XMS memory.
