TITLE:  Ascentia P Creative Labs Driver Install
 
 
ISSUE 
 
   The Creative Labs audio drivers can not be installed from 
   diskettes created with the ASTDU utility on Ascentia P systems 
   with BIOS 1.02 or above.
   
   This issue affects the following systems: 501996 and 501997.    

 
BACKGROUND 
 
   After the user executes the "INSTALL" program on one of the 
   Creative Labs driver diskettes, the following message is 
   displayed by the program:
   
     "To use your PnP Audio Card in DOS/Windows 3.X systems, 
      you need to install a PnP Configuration Manager."
   
   The program will not complete until the Configuration Manager is 
   installed.
   
   The install program executes properly on an Ascentia P system 
   running BIOS 1.01 or earlier.
   
   Changes in the BIOS between versions 1.01 and 1.02, which improve 
   the Ascentia P compliance with Plug-and-Play specification X.X 
   cause the above situation to occur when the Ascentia P is running 
   with BIOS version 1.02 or above.    

 
ACTION 
 
   Do not execute the following procedures unless it is absolutely 
   necessary to re-install the Creative Labs audio drivers from 
   diskette.
   
   1. Download the file <A HREF="ftp://ftp.ast.com/P-OTHER/CLCONMAN.EXE">CLCONMAN.EXE</A> from one of the AST 
      On-Line Services and execute it in an open, temporary 
      directory.
   
   2. Execute the "INSTALL" program, which is one of the files 
      generated, by unpacking the above program and follow 
      the instructions on the screen.
   
   Once the Configuration Manager, version 1.04 or later, has been 
   installed and the system rebooted as directed, the Creative Labs 
   audio driver installation program will run to completion.
