TECHNICAL BULLETIN # 1693 04/01/97 TITLE: Disabling Mouse Taps, Ascentia P, Win ISSUE If a user disables the touchpad tapping feature on the Ascentia P, under the Windows 3.1x operating system, the feature does not stay disabled after resume from suspend. This issue affects all Ascentia P systems running Windows 3.1x. BACKGROUND The Ascentia P includes a touchpad that is used to perform standard mouse functions. One of the touchpad features is the ability to tap on the pad to click on an item. Customers who are not comfortable with this feature, can disable taps and use only the buttons on each side of the touchpad. ACTION The issue stated above can be corrected by setting up Windows 3.1x as MS-DOS system with APM (Advanced Power Management). To do so, follow the steps below: 1. Exit Windows. 2. At the DOS prompt enter: CD/WINDOWS 3. Type SETUP and press the key. 4. Press the to go up to Computer and press the key. 5. Using the key, select MS-DOS system with APM from the list. 6. Press the key twice. 7. The Windows operating system may prompt the user to select files from the installation disks. 8. When the operation is finished, reboot the system. To disable touchpad taps, perform the following: 1. Double-click the Synaptics TouchPad icon in Control Panel. 2. Disable the tapping feature by removing the x next to Enable Gestures. 3. Click OK.
