AST RESEARCH, INC. TECHNICAL BULLETIN # 1710 05/06/97 TITLE: SiS6205 Shows 1280x1023 Resolution Only ISSUE After using the SiS Tools to set the video resolution to 1280x1024, the Display Setting under Windows 95 Control Panel shows the resolution is set to 1280x1023 instead of 1280x1024. This issue affects all the systems equipped with the SiS 6205 video chip. BACKGROUND According to SiS, the 6205 display driver is designed to only show 1023 scan lines at 1280x1024x256 color display mode. The 1024th scan line is blank, and the extra memory left from not displaying the last scan line is used for graphics performance enhancement. The impact of dropping one line from 1024 lines is negligible to the end user. ACTION SiS 6205 is designed to show an actual resolution of 1280x1023 when set to 1280x1024x256 color display mode. There is no need to take any action as the system is operating as designed.
