AST RESEARCH, INC. TECHNICAL BULLETIN # 1725 05/27/97 TITLE: Ascentia P and Samtron Monitors ISSUE The Ascentia P system may display distorted video on a Samtron monitor under the Windows 95 operating system. This issue affects the following systems: 501997, 503039, 503040, and 503041. BACKGROUND When an Ascentia P is set to simultaneous display with the LCD panel closed, the screen becomes distorted under Windows Explorer. In Windows Explorer, the vertical bar that divides the folders and contents will become s-shaped, looking rough and jagged. This distortion is caused because the Windows 95 display properties do not match the exact specifications of the external monitor attached. When the unit is set for simultaneous display with the LCD panel open, the display functions properly. ACTION To resolve the issue, perform the following steps: 1. Download the Samsung display drivers, file name SAMSUNG.EXE, from Microsoft’s Web page at: http://www.microsoft.com/kb/softlib/mslfiles/samsung.exe 2. Update the Windows 95 display list. 3. Follow the install procedures as outlined in the INSTALL.TXT file included with the SAMSUNG.EXE file. Make changes in the refresh rate depending on the resolution and type of Samtron monitor being used. The following configurations have been tested and are known to work: NOTES This issue has only been seen at resolutions greater than 640x480 on TFT displays.
