Last Revised AST RESEARCH, INC. TECHNICAL BULLETIN # 1733 06/25/97 TITLE: Mylex DAC960PL and Manhattan S Server ISSUE When a Mylex PCI DAC960PL Raid Controller is installed in a Manhattan S series server running Windows NT, the operating system will not see the second CPU. During the installation process, the system will be identified as a standard PC instead of the multiprocessor MPS system required for Windows NT to recognize dual processors. The Mylex 3.x firmware maps itself into a reserved memory space used by the AMI BIOS, causing improper identification. This issue affects the following systems : 501832, 503076, 503281, and 503282. BACKGROUND N/A ACTION Contact Mylex at (510) 608-2400 to obtain firmware version 2.38 as an interim fix. This firmware version is a single chip replacement that does not exhibit the reserved memory problem. WARNING: AST highly recommends that the user back up all system drives prior to upgrading the MYLEX BIOS and firmware. NOTES Mylex is currently working on a fix to the 3.X firmware. Contact Mylex for firmware replacement procedures and further updates on issue.
