TECHNICAL BULLETIN # 1738 07/01/97 TITLE: HP 5L May Not Go into "SleepMode" ISSUE When attached to the parallel port of a Premmia GX system, an HP 5L printer may not go into "SleepMode" after 15 minutes of inactivity, as designed. The system is using the Windows NT 4.0 operating system when this issue occurs. This issue affects all Premmia GX systems. BACKGROUND Windows NT 4.0 does NOT support EPP and ECP parallel ports. ACTION To allow the HP 5L printer to go into "SleepMode" as designed, under NT 4.0, DISABLE bidirectional printing as follows: 1. Click Start/Settings/Printers then right-click on the HP Laserjet 5L printer icon. Choose Properties. 2. Select the PORTS property sheet and remove the checkmark from "Enable Bidirectional Printing". 3. Click "OK" to close the printer properties box. The printer should now go into "SleepMode" after 15 minutes of inactivity, as designed.
