Last Revised AST RESEARCH, INC. TECHNICAL BULLETIN # 1754 09/09/97 TITLE: Bravo MS Erroneous Volt,LANDesk Client ISSUE LANDesk Client Manager (LDCM) may report Erroneous Voltage threshold values on the Bravo MS system. This errata applies to the following systems: 503246-xxx, 503247-xxx, 503248-xxx, 503320-xxx, 503322-xxx, 503417-xxx, and 503418-xxx. BACKGROUND The allowable power supply voltage deviations for Bravo MS systems are as follows: Level Deviation Range +12 1.20 +10.8, +13.2 -12 1.20 -10.8, -13.2 +5 0.50 +5.5, +4.5 -5 0.75 -4.25, -5.75 +3.3 0.34 +2.96, +3.64 LDCM 3.0 indicates error conditions as follows: 1. The error message is displayed in a pop up Windows message. 2. The error message is logged in the Notification Log viewable via the 'Notification Log...' option on the 'View' menu. 3. The error message is displayed in the scrollable window to the right of the 'PC Health' control. A voltage threshold error message might include the following text: "The voltage supplied by your computer's power supply is not within manufacturer's specifications." These versions have been updated to correct voltage threshold logic bugs manifested by a LDCM 3.0 error message. This error message indicates that a voltage problem exists when in fact, the voltage value lies within the threshold range. ACTION If a Bravo MS system user indicates that their system indicated a "Critically Low" or "Critically High" voltage problem, do the following: 1. Ask the user to activate the "PC Health" control on the main LDCM 3.0 window. Then ask the user to read the 'Current' values in the "Power Supplies" table. 2. Determine if all of the values are within the ranges listed above. 3. If all current voltage values are within their allowable range, it is possible that the error indication was erroneous. 4. If an erroneous voltage indication is suspected, the problem might be corrected by replacing the CILM7895.EXE or the CILM78NT.EXE modules (as appropriate). To do this, follow the steps below: a. Obtain file CILM7895.EXE or file CILM78NT.EXE from one of AST's On-Line! services as follows: AST WWW Site: http://www.ast.com AST On-Line! BBS*: See IB0001.TXT CompuServe: GO: ASTFORUM Prodigy: JUMP: ASTSUPPORT * Refer to IB0001.TXT for a list of AST's international BBS numbers. To decompress this file, create a temporary directory on your hard drive, copy the downloaded file to that directory, and run the file. b. Delete file CILM95.EXE or CILMNT.EXE from the C:\DMI\SIA\BIN directory. c. Copy downloaded file CILM7895.EXE or CILM78NT.EXE into C:\DMI\SIA\BIN. d. Rename file CILM7895.EXE to CILM95.EXE or CILM78NT.EXE to CILMNT.EXE, depending on the corresponding operating system. e. Reboot the system. The system will now report the correct voltage.
