Last Revised AST RESEARCH, INC. TECHNICAL BULLETIN # 1755 09/23/97 TITLE: Ascentia P70/80 and 3Com 3C589D ISSUE When the user installs the Phoenix socket drivers, the 3COM 3C589.COM driver may not load correctly on an Ascentia P70 or P80 system. This issue affects the following systems: 503252 and 503302. This issue may also affect any system using the Phoenix Card Manager. BACKGROUND A PC Card Network driver is really a dual-purpose driver. It is a network driver and a client driver of card services, meaning the driver is PCMCIA-aware. The resource information may be manipulated for a network PC Card by using the NET.CFG file for Netware or PROTOCOL.INI file for other network Operating Systems. ACTION Confirm that the CONFIG.SYS file contains the following lines for Phoenix Card Manager: DEVICE=c:\PCM4\DPMS.EXE DEVICEHIGH=c:\PCM4\CNFIGNAM.EXE /DEFAULT DEVICEHIGH=c:\PCM4\PCMSS.EXE DEVICEHIGH=c:\PCM4\PCMCS95.EXE DEVICEHIGH=c:\PCM4\PCMRMAN.SYS DEVICEHIGH=c:\PCM4\PCMSCD.EXE SET PCMPLUS=c:\PCM4 To unconfigure the card with PCM.EXE, perform the following: 1. Boot the system to DOS only. 2. From the directory where PCM resides, normally PCM4, run PCM. 3. From the pull down options, select ALT C, then select 'Edit Config Parameters'. 4. On the next screen, look for the 'Configuration Loaded' field and Tab into this field. Type the letter N and the field will change to NO. 5. Press the [Enter] key and answer NO to 'Do you wish to validate the configuration'. 6. When the system prompts with 'Do you wish to save it?' answer YES. 7. Exit the program by pressing the [ALT] and [V] buttons and selecting [Exit]. 8. Reboot the system for the changes to take effect.
