TECHNICAL BULLETIN # 1757 09/09/97 TITLE: BravoMS 6233,6266,6300Win3.11,Syst Hang ISSUE After the customer installs DOS version 6.22, and Windows For Workgroups version 3.11 (WFW) on a Bravo MS 6233, 6266, or 6300, the system may hang when booting to Windows. When this occurs, the system may display the Windows logo for about thirty seconds, and display an error message on a black screen. For example: "Error loading mmsound.drv" This incompatibility issue occurs only under the following three conditions: 1. Installing DOS version 6.22. 2. Using Ultra Direct Memory Access (UDMA) hard disk drives. 3. Loading into Windows 3.11. This issue applies to the following systems: 503368-101, 503368-201, 503370-101, 503370-201, 503502-101, and 503502-201. BACKGROUND No failure occurs with Non-UDMA drives. ACTION To avoid the issue described above, remove from the AUTOEXEC.BAT file, the line referencing the SMARTDRV.EXE file. An example of this line may be: C:\DOS\SMARTDRV.EXE /X NOTES If the customer must use SMARTDRV, the options below will work: 1. Load SMARTDRV High. 2. Run MEMMAKER (once) prior to starting Windows.
