Last Revised AST RESEARCH, INC. TECHNICAL BULLETIN # 1762 09/23/97 TITLE: McAfee and Open GL Screen Savers ISSUE When using the Open GL ScreenScan, a system may lockup or never complete the screen saver sequence. The default ScreenScan setting 'Enabled' may cause any Open GL screen saver to start and then suddenly go back to the main desktop screen, without any keyboard intervention. This issue may affect any system running McAfee VirusScan version 3.0.0 BACKGROUND The McAfee ScreenScan, version 3.0.0,is not currently compatible with Windows 95 Open GL ScreenScan or third-party screen savers such as AfterDark. The Open GL ScreenScan program allows the system the ability to scan for viruses while the screen saver is running. ACTION To resolve the issue, use one of the following two options: DISABLE the ScreenScan option using the following steps: 1. Right-click the Windows 95 desktop and click on the properties line. 2. Click the ScreenScan Tab and uncheck the 'Enable Scanning while in screen Saver Mode' box. 3. Click OK. OR The OEM copy of VirusScan includes 90 days of free technical phone support, DAT file updates, and engine upgrades through McAfee. If your system falls within these upgrade guidelines, an upgrade to version 3.1.1 and above would eliminate the issue. Please refer to the README.1ST file located in the Program Files\McAfee\VirusScan subdirectory for upgrade guidelines and procedures.
