Last Revised AST RESEARCH, INC. TECHNICAL BULLETIN # 1766 10/07/97 TITLE: Madge Card Socket Utility and CardBus ISSUE When attempting to configure an Ascentia P70, an Ascentia P/80, or an Ascentia A+ system with the MADGECS.EXE utility, the following message will appear: "The controller has not been assigned legal bus numbers by the bios, Madgecs not installed." This issue affects all Ascentia P70, Ascentia P80, and Ascentia A+ systems. BACKGROUND N/A ACTION Download the file CARDBUS.EXE from the AST WEBSITE. Copy files QTCFG.COM and MADGECS.CFG (included in the executable) into the same directory as the MADGECS.EXE utility supplied by Madge. This action will allow the system to assign the legal bus numbers to the CardBus controller for proper PC card configuration. In order for the MADGECS.EXE utility to load, make sure that QTCFG.COM is loaded before MADGECS.EXE. Below is an example of how your STARTNET.BAT should look. 1..Run LSL 2..Run the QTCFG.COM file 3..Run MADGECS.EXE file 4..Make sure the MADGECS.CFG file is in the same directory as the MADGECS.EXE file. Madge supplied the MADGECS.CFG file. This file is needed to ENABLE correct network configuration on the Ascentia P and Ascentia A+ systems. 5..Run the Netware VLM drivers.
