Last Revised AST RESEARCH, INC. TECHNICAL BULLETIN # 1778 11/18/97 TITLE: Manhattan P and Madge Token Ring Card ISSUE When configuring a Manhattan P server with an EISA Madge Token Ring card and devices off both NCR SCSI channels, a SCSI bus reset error may occur after loading the MADGEODI.LAN driver, version 5.09, for Novell 3.12. This error has only been seen while using devices off both SCSI channels. This issue affects the following systems: 501502, 501503, and 501830. BACKGROUND This issue was reported after a customer upgraded the Madge Token Ring drivers from the SMART386.LAN, version 5.15, to the new MADGEODI.LAN, version 5.09. As soon as the Madge driver was loaded, the system generated a SCSI bus reset error and continued posting. This seemed to be an informative error that did not affect system performance or functionality. ACTION To resolve the issue, change the secondary SCSI port address from the default 0900h - 9ffh to 0f400h - 0f4ffh using the following steps: 1. Boot the computer from the EISA configuration diskette. 2. From the opening screen, press the [Enter] key. 3. On the welcoming screen, press the [Enter] key. 4. Arrow-down to Configure Computer and press the [Enter] key. 5. Arrow-down to View and Edit Details and press the [Enter] key. 6. Arrow-down to the second embedded - PCI SCSI Controller field and press the [F6] key for edit resources. 7. Move down to the port address field and press the [-] key until the address shown is 0f400h - 0f4ffh. 8. Press the [F10] key when done. 9. Press the [F10] key again. 10. Arrow-down to Save and Exit and press the [Enter] key. 11. Highlight the Save Configuration and Restart the Computer field and press the [Enter] key. 12. The configuration has been saved. Press the [Enter] key to reboot. NOTES N/A TAN 001958RF --------------------------------------------------------------------- The information in this data sheet is subject to change without notice.
