Last Revised AST RESEARCH, INC. TECHNICAL BULLETIN # 1796 02/03/98 TITLE: Reinstalling Sound in Win95 on Ascentia ISSUE If the sound drivers are removed from the Windows 95 Device Manager, they may not reinstall properly. After rebooting, Windows 95 finds an unknown device and provides an opportunity to install drivers. However, when the drivers are provided, Windows 95 reports there are no drivers for the device at the specified location. The only choice is to click the Finish button. This procedure will be repeated for four devices. This issue affects all Ascentia M systems. BACKGROUND N/A ACTION To reinstall the sound drivers, perform the following steps: 1. Double-click the System icon in Control Panel. 2. Click the Device Manager tab. 3. Click the + symbol next to Other Devices. This will reveal four unknown devices. 4. Click the first instance of Unknown Device, then click the Remove button. 5. Click OK to confirm device removal. 6. Repeat this procedure for each of the other three unknown devices. 7. After all unknown devices are removed, click the Refresh button. Windows 95 will then find all of the CS4237B devices and install them properly. 8. Close Device Manager. The sound should now be functioning properly.
