TITLE  Bravo MS/MS-T Lock-up During NT Boot

ISSUE

   Some Pentium II, Bravo MS or MS-T systems may experience a lock-up 
   on the Windows NT 'Version' screen during boot.
   
   


BACKGROUND

   This issue is caused by an IRQ conflict between the parallel port
   (lpt1) and the ESS sound driver.


ACTION

   To correct the issue, the ESS driver must be moved to another IRQ 
   by the following procedure:
   
   1.  Turn on the system and press F2 to enter Setup, when prompted.
   2.  From System Setup, arrow over to 'Advanced', then down to 
       'Peripheral Configuration', and press <enter>.
   3.  Arrow down to 'Parallel Port' and press <enter>.
   4.  Select 'Disabled' and press <enter>.
   5.  Press F10 to Save and Exit then answer 'Yes' for Setup
       Confirmation and press <enter>. The system will now restart and
       boot normally to NT.
   6.  Open Control Panel and select Multimedia.
   7.  Select the Devices tab, then expand the Audio Devices entry.
   8.  Select Audio for 1879/1869/1878/1868/1887/1888 AudioDrive and
       click Properties.
   9.  Click on the Settings button.
   10. Verify that the Base I/O Address is set to 220, then click 
       Continue.
   11. Set the Capture IRQ to '5', then click OK. 
   12. Select Restart Now and let the system reboot.
   13. Again, press F2 to enter Setup, when prompted.
   14. From System Setup, arrow over to 'Advanced', then down to 
       'Peripheral Configuration', and press <enter>.
   15. Arrow down to 'Parallel Port' and press <enter>.
   16. Select 'Enabled' and press <enter>.
   17. Press F10 to Save and Exit then answer 'Yes' for Setup
       Confirmation and press <enter>. The system will now restart and
       boot normally to NT.
   
   The lock-up should not reoccur.
